MRS Genoa Chapter at local, national and international level 

MRS Chapter within University

The goal of MRS Chapter is to offer to undergraduate students the opportunity to visualize themselves within the scientific world and raise their interest in research. Our Chapter will organize webinars, seminars in order to show how the Materials Science field is approached within the University. 

MRS Chapter within Genoa 

What MRS Chapter sets out to do is to promote education of the community also outside the University. Within Genoa, we plan to organize visits to primary and secondary schools in Genoa or orientation and open-day event to demonstrate the impact of materials science on daily life. By sharing our scientific experience with children facing the scientific world for the first time, we intend to leave them some clear scientific notions. We also hope to establish partnerships with some important museums and cultural centres in Genoa (e.g., Museo di Chimica, Museo di Storia Naturale Giacomo Doria, Museo dell’Accademia Linguistica di Belle Arti) this can benefit both University students and general public, integrating MRS Chapter with popular science events to promote dissemination. Among them, “Festival della Scienza” is an international benchmark where scientists, researchers, artists, authors, as well as scientific bodies, associations and companies, meet the public so that science can be touched, seen and understood without boundaries. MRS Chapter also wants to include evening events of divulgation characters in beautiful locations (e.g., Acquario di Genova, Castello d’Albertis)

MRS Chapter within Italy

The idea is to open new collaboration, integrating the MRS Genoa Chapter within the existing projects and initiatives proposed by universities in other cities of Italy through the participation to national conferences and schools where the most recent research developments are discussed. Another goal is to establish relationships with Italian Centres of Excellence such as Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Italian National Research Council (CNR) of which our faculty advisors Prof. Davide Peddis and Prof. Mario Rocca are active members; this could raise MRS Genoa appeal bringing new students closer to scientific research.  As well as we are planning  to be present in same national popularization events such as Cagliari festival Scienza  and Scienza Sotto La Cupola (Novara).

Internationalization of MRS Genoa Chapter

The development of cultural exchanges and international collaborations is one of the main aims of UniGe which, in cooperation with foreign institutions, promotes various student exchanges: as demonstration of these actions 10% of the students at University of Genoa comes from abroad. Our Chapter want to support these scientific and cultural exchanges by organizing events with other E-MRS Chapters (i.e., University Chapter of Paris) with the intent to promote new partnerships and to expand the Materials Research community network. 

In conclusion, this forum, attended by an interdisciplinary group of PhDs and students, will represent a unique opportunity for our entire community since we hope that the formation of our Chapter will lead to the spreading of new MRS groups among several European Universities with which UniGe has already alliances.
